Crime Island in the Great Lakes

Lake Erie is the fourth largest lake by surface area of the five Great Lakes in North America and the eleventh-largest globally. It is bordered by Ohio (USA) on one side, and Ontario, Canada on the other. It is the southernmost, shallowest, and smallest by volume of the Great Lakes and therefore also has the shortest average water residence time.

Both Ontario and Ohio are pleasant places: Cleveland sits on Lake Erie. Ontario boasts Toronto, one of the hottest destinations on the planet. One thing can be said about both: they are generally safe places to visit. But that doesn’t mean boring. Oh no. Despite the quiet, calm, respectable and crime-free reputation of both Ohio and Ontario, they were once used for smuggling, mob casino, a researcher finds. We’re talking about Middle Island. ‘It became quite a little hub for some illegal activities under the name and guise of being a fishing club’. There are a variety of charter boats that visit the Erie islands.
