Do you know Sardinia?

Everyone – including us – always write about the many splendors of Italy. There are so many – where do you even start? That’s why it continues to be one of the top destinations, year upon year. And we’re sure that will continue to be the case for millennia. Even on the highly-travelled mainland, there are little nooks and crannies that are overlooked gems, waiting for us to discover. Do you know Sardinia?

But, we were recently watching a travel video hosted by the polyglot Sophie Fouron. As traveled as she is charming, she really finds the true essence of places, and not the usual glossy or quaint. And, in the video that we watched, she was discovering Sardinia. If you haven’t been (we haven’t yet, and we’ve been to every corner of Italy) this is a location that you should look into. Rugged, ancient, honest, shining and fresh to new eyes, Sardinia should be in your sights. We really wonder how we could have missed this gem. Oh . . did you know that pecorino cheese originates here? Yum!

Basic info: Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has nearly 2,000km of coastline, sandy beaches and a mountainous interior crossed with hiking trails. Its rugged landscape is dotted with thousands of nuraghi – mysterious Bronze Age stone ruins shaped like beehives. One of the largest and oldest nuraghi is Su Nuraxi in Barumini, dating to 1500 B.C. ― Google
