Where the streets have no name

…. literally. It’s not an homage to an old western film, or not even the sign for a trendy bistro that’s just debuted with much fanfare where you live. Instead, this is the real thing, what you paid for. And, of course, it’s in Europe, where so many things began, and so many of them still exist. And that’s an important part of our story – they’re old, but they’re still a part of the scenery and more. In this case, it takes place in Germany.

In the Quadratestadt of Mannheim, Germany, the streets aren’t named: instead, the blocks are. It’s an exception to a rule that most people don’t even think about — especially not mapping companies. And, when you watch the video – all the way to the end, please – you’ll truly understand not only why we named this post the way it is, but you’ll also be able to witness living history, still in motion. And, thanks, as ever, to Tom Scott for unearthing these things, and then explaining it to us mortal / sedentary beings.

The Quadratestadt “City of Squares” Mannheim is the only place where this happens.
